Deepwoken Beginner Guide – Best Origins & Attunements for “Freshies”

So, you bought Deepwoken. You loaded in, walked out of the city, got jumped by a Bandit, and immediately got sent to the Depths.

Welcome to the hardest game on Roblox.

In Deepwoken, death matters. If you die twice, your character is deleted (Wiped) forever. You lose your levels, your items, and your stats. For a new player (“Freshie”), this is brutal.

But don’t panic. The game is survivable if you stop mashing buttons and start planning. Here is the 2026 survival guide to your first 10 hours.

📍 Step 1: Choosing Your Origin (Spawn)

When you create a character, you pick an Origin. Do not try to be a hero.

1. Castaway (The Only Choice for Noobs)

  • Spawn: Isle of Vigils (Highly Recommended) or Etris.
  • Why Isle of Vigils? It is a temple full of Guard NPCs. If a monster or a high-level player chases you, run to the Guards. They will kill the threat for you. Etris is too open and prone to raids.
  • Avoid: Deepbound (Starts in hell/Depths) and Voidwalker (PvP Bounty Hunter). These are for veterans. If you pick these, you will wipe in 5 minutes.

2. Boons & Flaws

  • Best Boon: Autodidact. It gives you “free” points to level up faster. Essential for learning.
  • Best Flaw: Vegetarian (Can’t eat meat) or Obvious (Enemies spot you easier). These are easy to manage compared to “Simple” or “Squeamish.”

🔥 Step 2: Choosing Your Attunement (Magic)

Magic in Deepwoken isn’t just for damage; it’s for utility.

1. Flamecharm (The Best Starter)

  • Why: It deals Burn Damage. Even if you miss your sword swings, the fire keeps hurting the enemy.
  • Mantras: “Fire Blade” and “Flame Ball” are simple, long-range tools to poke enemies without getting hit.

2. Thundercall (The Stunner)

  • Why: Good mobility and stun potential. If you panic, lightning moves often interrupt the enemy’s combo.

3. Attunement-less (Physical Only)

  • Why: believe it or not, having no magic is strong. It forces you to put all your stats into Weapon and Fortitude (Health). You hit harder with your sword and have more HP than a mage.

⚔️ Step 3: Combat Basics (Parry, Block, Dodge)

You cannot “face tank” in this game. Two bandits will kill you if you just spam Left Click.

  • The Golden Rule: F (Parry) -> M1 (Attack).
  • How to Parry: Tap F right before an attack hits you. You will hear a metal clang and see sparks. This stuns the enemy for a split second. Attack immediately after.
  • Vent: If you are getting combo-ed and can’t move, press G to “Vent.” It pushes enemies away at the cost of Tempo (stamina).

📈 Step 4: Where to Put Your Stats?

As you level up, you get points. Don’t spread them out evenly. Focus on these 3:

  1. Fortitude (HP): Get this to 25 or 40 immediately. More HP prevents you from getting one-shot.
  2. Weapon (Sword/Axe/Dagger): Pick ONE type (e.g., Medium Weapon) and stick to it. Higher skill = More damage.
  3. Agility: Get this to 25 to unlock safe talents like “Speed Demon” and better parkour/dodging.

Tip: Ignore “Charisma” and “Intelligence” for your first character. You just need to survive.

🗺️ Step 5: The “Safe” Leveling Route

Don’t go exploring. Follow this path.

  1. Power 1-3 (Isle of Vigils):
    • Go to the training room in the temple.
    • Use the training items (Dumbbells/Mats) to get free XP.
    • Fight the “Instructor” NPC. He cannot kill you (he stops at 1 HP). Practice parrying him until you can beat him perfectly.
  2. Power 3-10 (Lower Erisia):
    • Buy a boat (Sloop) for 25 Notes.
    • Sail to Lower Erisia (The big stone archway island nearby).
    • Fight Bandits on the beach. Do not go deep into the caves (Sharkos live there).
    • Loot chests for gear.

💀 Step 6: The Depths (What happens when you die?)

In Deepwoken, you have a “Rusty Health Bar.”

  • First Death: You wake up in the Depths (Underworld). You are not dead yet.
  • How to Escape: You must find the City of the Drowned and climb the elevator. Then, you must pass a “Trial” (Kill a monster).
  • Second Death: If you die inside the Depths, your character is Wiped. Game Over. Create a new slot.

Freshie Advice: If you get sent to the Depths at Level 1 or 2… honestly? Just jump into the void and wipe. It’s faster to restart a new character than to try and escape the Depths with no gear.
